(B) Full day to explore the Arenal Observatory Preserve. The 11-kilometer (7-mile) network of well-marked and maintained trails that are ideal for hiking and birdwatching. These trails give you access to rivers and waterfalls and since they are inside a 870-acre private property, you won’t run into crowds when out exploring. After lunch depart to the Sarapiqui area, located in the Northeastern lowlands and neighboring the Braulio Carrillo National Park. (B,L) Morning visit to La Selva Biological Station is one of the most important sites for Tropical Ecosystem Research in the world. It is comprised of 3,988 acres of old growth tropical wet forest and part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Species diversity is spectacular, including more than 1,850 species of vascular plant flora, 350 species of trees, more than half of the 886 species of birds in Costa Rica among other species. Afternoon guided boat tour in the Sarapiqui River. During the tour you will enjoy the exuberant flora and fauna that offers the majestic and historic Sarapiquí River. Overnight at Selva Verde Lodge
(B) After breakfast you will depart with your guide to the Braulio Carrillo National Park for a guided walk in the trails of the Quebrada Gonzalez Sector. Following this tour you will continue to San Jose and have a free evening. Overnight at Hyatt Pinares Hotel
(B) Early morning you will be picked up for the transfer to the San Gerardo de Dota area, visiting on the way the Tapanti National Park. This park is part of the Pacific La Amistad Conservation Area and is located on the east edge of the Talamanca Range. The park's 400 bird species include sparrow hawks, resplendent quetzals, emerald toucanets, and violaceous trogons. Following this visit continue to the San Gerardo de Dota. Overnight at Savegre Lodge
(B) Full day in San Gerardo de Dota to explore the area with your private guide. San Gerardo or Savegre is a small valley nestled in the Talamanca Mountain Range, features a cloud forests and is considered a Mecca for bird watchers counting about 170 species of birds including the Magnificent Quetzal.
